This episode is brought to you by Trophyai. We discuss all things in the sim racing world. I'm your host, jason Rivera, and I'm joined here by Mr Eric Kelly and Jeff Smart. How's everybody doing this week?
Erick:here by Mr Eric Kelly and Jeff Smart. How's everybody doing this week? Doing good man, another week. Another week closer to the Sim Racing or Sim Gaming Expo In the best month still, in May.
Jeff:Doing good man. Yeah, I saw, we just crossed over. Just by the time this airs, I think, 93 days. Not that we're counting, no, no. But dude, hey, gentlemen, dude, we had a banger of a week for motorsports, which, oh yeah, I'll get into here shortly. But yeah, I mean like just tons of action going on in the motorsports all right, man.
Jason:So that's what's up. Man, so it. It has been a quite a week this week, man, I'll tell you and I need to open up with. I'm gonna open up with a confession here, live on the show. The guys don't know about this and I'm not too sure if my head is in the right spot right now, because I'm about to say this live on a TV you know, chicane TV.
Erick:Ain't no cuts, so yesterday.
Jason:I'm telling you, man. So yesterday I had a race scheduled with Global Racing League and it was the BMW race, and I was in a rush, I was taking care of some stuff, I was doing some work on the computer and my little chihuahua was just roaming the house just carefree. No responsibilities, no, nothing, no bill paying. She'd do whatever she want, she'd get away with it. She's at that age where the dollars just get away with it. Freeloading, yeah, oh yeah, a hundred percent.
Jason:So then I'm getting ready for the race and I usually put her in the room, you know, so she's not barking and everything, and she usually just hang out until I'm done, and then I go and grab her. So I put her in the room, I go and grab her, so I put her in the room and I walked over to the rig and, as you can see, I usually race in this type of lighting, this kind of moody environment, so you don't really see much. So I'm racing and as soon as I get on the brakes it felt weird. I was like it's something going on with my active pedal and it felt mushy or something like that. So then, alright, so I did the race, had a great time. When I'm getting off the rig and I'm turning all the lights on, I see dog poo on the floor. Oh my god Bro.
Erick:Oh my God, oh dude, that's worse than I thought.
Jeff:Way worse than I thought.
Erick:That's worse.
Jason:I saw a dog poo and the active petals and everything back. There is dark right.
Jeff:Bro I shine a light. Did you kill the dog?
Jason:The dog's breathing. Okay, I shine a light. Did you kill the dog? The dog's breathing, okay. Okay, I shine a light and there's dog freaking. What do you call this Waste?
Jason:all over my freaking active pedal and everything. It's all over the place and I'm spraying it and I'm cleaning it and there's shit going everywhere. Just particles of shit are going everywhere. So that's kind of how my week started, bro. Bro, that's a shitty start to the week, I know, and it was extra fresh. That dog knew exactly what she was doing. She's like alright man, you want to lock me up? Alright man. So I'm going to drop this right here for you, don't worry about it.
Jeff:Because you're not looking. That's a shitty situation.
Jason:I knew my lap times were off, but damn bro.
Erick:So you didn't know they were that shitty huh.
Jason:I had some dampening going on is what I had.
Erick:That's crazy. So the pedals survived.
Jason:The pedals are okay. The pedals got some. What is it? Some super green or some basic green? Some green and yeah Some simple green and an old toothbrush because I had to get all inside the grooves and they had shit planted in there.
Jeff:And, like our listeners, should know how meticulous Jason is with his gear. I can just see him. I was eating at him inside as he was underneath there. Knees are all getting sore from crouching down. Your fingers are all funny. I can just imagine you steaming.
Jason:The neighbors thought that I was about to get a divorce because they thought they heard all the curses going on in the house. They thought what are they fighting about? She's not even home.
Erick:Look, I know that pedal is cleaner than it's ever been.
Jason:Oh yeah, that thing is a factory brand new. It smells good, it's cleaner than that.
Erick:It's cleaner than factory brand new right now. I know it is.
Jason:I can't believe, bro. I could not believe that I put shit on my thousands plus dog shit.
Erick:That's crazy man.
Jason:Dog shit, bro Dog shit. So yeah, it's been a good week, I guess.
Erick:On the bright side of the week. It only gets better from that man.
Jason:I know, hopefully that's the worst thing, but how was your week, eric man? What's going on over there?
Erick:Man. So my week was good, great actually. I kind of got my rig to a point where I kind of have things in the place where I want them. So I got to tinker on the rig some more and I had my first visitor to use my rig.
Jason:Uh-oh.
Erick:Yeah so Say more It's-.
Jason:You didn't put them in an official race, did you?
Erick:No, no, no. Test drive Practice practice yeah, put him in. I raced him a little bit um showed him the set of Corso Evo, um what else? Who?
Jason:was this some of the original?
Erick:uh, so he so he's the husband of my oldest, uh, godmother, so a family friend. Like they were all over, um, they came over Sunday evening.
Jason:So he's never been in a rig before, is what you're saying?
Erick:Never been in a rig. He's seen pictures of it, just because we kind of talk tech sometimes stuff like that, and he's in the cars. He used to have a Mustang that he modded and he's got an Audi and stuff. So he's generally interested watches Drive to Survive. He was messaging me about that today, so he's. You know I'm not pushing him but I'm presenting him the path. Yes, down this road You're preaching to him yeah. I'm preaching.
Jason:Tell him to subscribe to the Cicada Podcast.
Erick:Oh, yeah, he subscribed. Oh, okay, he watches some episodes. And it was kind of weird because I was nervous with him being in there, Because this is like my baby, like it's my thing, it's very, very personal to me. And so that was my first time having somebody else in it.
Jason:It's weird, right, when you see someone using it. Yeah.
Erick:And you don't want them moving the seat.
Jason:You don't want them-.
Erick:So it's weird because and you guys can tell me if this is how you feel, and just probably the first time I'm just kind of nervous what he'll think, because to me I know how much I enjoy being in it, but when you're kind of sharing it with somebody for the first time, I don't just kind of, you know, it's exciting. Yeah, is this weird that I'm so excited about?
Jason:it. No, no, no, no, it's exciting.
Erick:And stuff like that. That's why, when Jeff came over.
Jason:I always tell him jump in the rig, bro, tell me, because you don't have anybody giving you feedback. You know yeah you feedback. You know you're, you're giving yourself feedback based on what you know. That's a very good valid point, man, because you have somebody come in and they, they test it.
Jeff:Um, it's a good feeling. Yeah, eric, I know. So, first of all, I got two, two, a question. A statement for you is first corner. Did they go off?
Erick:So so I was very what's him, what's him? So this was so. The first one I put him in was iRacing okay and iRacing and the Porsche Porsche GT3 oh bro, what are you trying to do?
Erick:so the Porsche is easier than the BMW, like we already talked about that, and he actually did very well. So he didn't, so not afraid to use the brake, so this? So these are two things that I immediately noticed. Looking at his traces, he it took him a while to go full throttle and uh-huh yes, he never did 100 percent break like I was telling him maybe 40-50% brake. So he was taking it very slow and to me that means he felt that kind of fear or the connection with the car.
Jason:I feel like I'm on edge, so I shouldn't Exactly.
Erick:He didn't treat it like a video game, like he was nervous because I think also that was his first time feeling that torque as well. And so when he felt it kind of dial in, he's like oh, like I'm, this ain't a toy.
Jason:Yeah, this ain't a toy, this feels serious man, Merrick, you laying down the torque in your house.
Erick:Man, I see you, bro, I see hey if you're not laying down to talk in your house, somebody will, bro. Rob Markman Jr. Somebody will Rob Markman Jr. It's going to be me, bro. It's going to be me, rob Markman Jr.
Jason:Well it's the same thing. I had the same experience with Jeff, because when Jeff came over I was super excited to see what her reaction would be like, and I think Jeff had a friend visit him and then we had that person come over, right, and we-.
Jeff:Oh yeah, my buddy here, alex.
Jason:Yeah, yeah, alex, we put Alex in there and then we were both watching him like monitoring what he was doing.
Erick:The guy's a big dude, though that's the only thing. Yeah, he's like 6'10".
Jason:He's like eight feet tall or something like that. Oh wow, yeah bro.
Erick:Oh, yeah, yeah.
Jason:I look small next to this guy.
Jeff:I mean, everybody looks small next to him, so yeah All right.
Jason:Well, that's, that's a good experience. Oh, wait, wait, so finish, man. What did he say?
Erick:Oh yeah. So so not trying to be too weird about it, but just kind of ask him like how he felt and tell him about some upgrades I was looking to make and I mentioned triple screens and he was like I couldn't imagine it with triple screens because I was already so immersed already. I felt like I was in a car already and having three screens that would be crazy. So that kind of made me feel good that somebody thought they were in a real car.
Jason:in my read I mean we all start with single screens. That's a reality, Unless you know that you're going in the deep end with this hobby and you go straight in. But I want to say 90% of us started on a single screen Because 90% of us came on a console and a console only support one screen anyway.
Jason:So you're going in the hobby with that mentality like I just need a nice screen, right a screen and then I started with a 32 inch, like led lcd tv yeah oh yeah, there you go yeah, you gotta start somewhere, oh but that was really quick, though, jeff, that you, you didn't have to add that I was going to say Jeff, you kind of got on a rocket ship.
Erick:You got a little taste.
Jeff:I got friends with Jason. He was on our team. Bro, yeah, you're in proximity.
Jason:All day on our teams looking up monitors Like what do you think about this one? I would get a different link every other day. What do you think about that one?
Erick:That's awesome.
Jason:Yeah, that's awesome. Yeah, if I live closer to jason I, I definitely have some other problems.
Erick:Yeah, man, it's not a hazard not having enough rig.
Jeff:It's a hazard to the bank account.
Jason:Well, you have access to my rig man, I'll give you a hundred percent.
Jeff:Dude, you have absolutely kind of you know, tell me where I could shave. You know, hey, save here so you can spend here. Um, I, I have zero complaints of anything I have purchased. It was good advice, great advice, and I think, you articulated it perfectly in kind of something like the first 10 episodes. We kind of covered this stuff. So if you're trying to get back into it as long as it's for you, right?
Jason:Because spending this amount of money, it's got to click. It's got to click a little bit and if you get that initial click, then you'll know, trust me right away, that adding more is going to you're going to make it love it even more. It's not like I've never heard a case where somebody added an upgrade and said this is too much, never, never, ever. As a matter of fact, as soon as the new stuff comes in, they're looking at what to buy next.
Erick:It's a rabbit hole for sure. I'll say to your point we talked about it before the cry. Once thing you do have to come in at a certain level to get the foundation.
Jason:Absolutely. If you don't do that, then for me, for years I had to look at a lot of level to get the foundation Absolutely yes.
Erick:If you don't do that, then, like for me for years, you don't have to look at a lot of tech in a chair at a desk and I kind of would play with it a little bit. I wasn't hooked. I was interested but I wasn't like addicted and once I got this and I could feel just what I was missing and it's hard to describe.
Jason:I'll give you an example, bro. Let's say we all went out right, which we will in Chicago, If you guys want to hang out with us, we'll be there in September. But let's say we all went out. Eric came out of Hawaii and just an example Eric has never had sushi, for example, and I take him to the cheapest freaking sushi place ever and he tries it 7-Eleven over here.
Jeff:Oh yeah, That'll do it.
Jason:And he's like this is nasty. And then maybe Jeff is like a sushi expert and he's like bro, that's not sushi, you don't know sushi. But now, since he had that initial bite of not sushi, you don't know sushi. But now, since he had that initial bite of bad suit, he has that bad taste in his mouth about what it is literally. So you can kind of relate that to sim racing.
Jason:Right, there's yeah there's uh, there's a certain level with it, right, it's a sport. If you like racing, if you like racing just by liking the sport of racing, it doesn't matter what it is indycar, indy 500 just happened, um as well. Formula, whatever it is, gt, then you're already at a 50 chance that that this hobby is going to jive with you, right? It's going to, it's going to click with you, and then you add something realistic that'll make you feel like you're controlling a vehicle. Then that's where you make that connection. But just as an example, with sushi, right, because sushi is a very delicate thing, it's a very delicate dish, and if you go somewhere and they don't do it, right-.
Erick:Yeah, it's very easy to-.
Jason:You ruin it To have a bad experience. Yeah.
Erick:You need somebody to kind of shepherd you into sushi, who knows what they're doing.
Jason:Yeah, yeah. And that's the problem. Sometimes with sushi you start high end and you can never come back down oh yeah, and that's expensive bro.
Jeff:But enough about sushi, Jeff how was your week, boss, dude? I had the week was the week, but let's talk about the week this past week bro, you can't beat me.
Jeff:I had shit on my damn it's only up from there, man um, I did not have a quote-unquote shitty week Dad jokes for days. So, dude, this was arguably the best motorsport weekend of the year. Two of the biggest motorsports leagues or associations, I don't know what you call them had arguably one of their biggest events of the week on the same weekend. So F1, biggest events of the week on the same weekend. Uh, so f1. We had monaco, you know, a staple of the f1 uh schedule year-round, you know, probably one of the most. You know, like, when you think of you think of monaco. And then indy or, excuse me, uh, indycar was at indianapolis, you know, are what they say, the, what the greatest motorsport event in his, you know in the world, or whatever. Um, so I feel like we'd be rem remiss if we didn't talk about the scandal at the Indianapolis 500 this past week, because it is mind-blowing. So I mean, listen, if you guys didn't hear about this, let me dig into this because this is super interesting stuff.
Jeff:So it revolves around Team Penske, more or less, and I'm probably I'm going to get like 99% is right. There might be I might leave out a little bit, but this is going to be the truth. So team Penske, the owner of team Penske, which has two cars, is also the same owner of the Indianapolis speed motor speedway, which I think we'll hear about later is the same person who owns the indie circuit or I'm using the wrong term here but owns the, you know the indie brand, or the, the, the circuit, all the stops, all the gps yeah wow.
Jeff:So everybody's like how can you be an owner and the president? It's like, imagine if, like christian horner, the, the, the, the general manager of red bolt, was also the principal f you write your own rules, right yeah?
Jeff:so listen to this. So on saturday I think it was the all the cars after qualifying which is interesting go into, uh, you know, spec to make sure they're meeting the specs inspections, um, you know all of the things. So indycar, unlike uh, formula, formula you can like they have like general guidelines and then you just have to, like you can do technology and you know, and make things lighter, more dynamic. Indycar not at all like that. You get the car from I'm gonna mispronounce but delore, delore, uh, delores, from I forget where who makes the car, but you get it and that's it. You just get it. It's really like a driver's drive and how you set up the car with camber and weight, very spec racing yeah it is what it is, as is you have to just drive it.
Jeff:It's a driver. How you set up the wheel set up so the Penske car fails tech inspection. Because what happened is the rear wing gets bolted on with very specific bolts. Because what happened in the past was the cars would come around the corner back, they'll lose the back end and go into the wall and the back end of the car because it was a solid piece would go into the driver and paralyze the driver like this is. This is why they use specific bolts so it breaks away and the car is. Think of it as a crumple zone, right. So these guys, because these cars are going like 230 miles an hour for like four hours, 500 miles, right, what they decided to do is overlap them and bolt them, but then they welded them smooth to be more aerodynamic oh yeah so first things first is you can't weld it because of safety, like yeah, if you crash, the dude's gonna have, like this, carbon rod, basically right into his spine okay that's the safety portion of this, which is a huge foul.
Jeff:Yeah, then you address the cheating portion, because you made it more aerodynamic well, that was the perfect excuse to do something like that so, dude, this has layers on layers, so let's back up a year.
Jeff:Last year the penske car won the indy 500. They went that car goes on the indy 500 museum in the motor speedway. They went and looked at that car, oh no, and it had the welding on it oh, that's crazy bro, listen to this president. Who's the owner of Penske that got caught? Cheating was like it's only a 10-place grid penalty.
Jason:Oh, of course, Bro.
Jeff:you just cheated in the Indy 500, and you're handing down the simple slap on the wrist, yeah, because conflict of interest. And all of a sudden they're like oh, did I say 10 place grid penalty? I'm sorry, I mispronounced back of the grid. Oh so he like changed tunes, whatever all this other stuff.
Jason:Oh, they got this guy in the corner, bro, oh it was so like if you, if you go.
Jeff:So they did tech inspection and then they start qualifying and once that starts, you can't touch the car. It's like F1. What do they call it? Was it Parformé? Parformé you can't touch the car. The Penske crew was like I don't give a shit. And they took edge grinders and they're trying to grind the wheels off.
Jason:This thing and, like CBS or NBC, is like sitting there in 4k watching them take the shit that they broke the rules oh my god bro disaster but I'll tell you, milwaukee's probably gonna come out with a commercial on it. Right, it can cut them off faster. So this is all fuel before the race starts um.
Jeff:So, zach brown, the owner of the, I think the owner of the mclaren f1 team, not the owner of mclaren, but the, he's, you know the ceo, uh, huge motorsport guy, but he said, hey, if we don't qualify in um monaco on saturday, which is friday here in, he was gonna fly back yeah he was like, screw this, I'm going to watch the indy 500, I'm gonna take my private jet and I'll see y'all like like max or not max.
Jeff:But uh, lando and piasci, good luck, we'll see you monday. So, anyways, they qualify one in three, right, and so he stays. But this is just to go show you like how big the indy 500 is. So, um, I watched a little of the 500 and I think F1 could take some tips from it. When they show, like, on a driver in the cockpit, jason, they show how much they got a little logo of how much battery they have left in the car, cause they're they have the, the hybrid motor as well.
Jason:Okay, like a graph yeah.
Jeff:And you can see when they're charging and it goes back up. Super cool. Also, I still need to watch it. I haven't watched it, man. Like a graph, yeah, and you can see when they're charging and it goes back up super cool.
Jason:Um, also, I need, I still need to watch it. I haven't watched it, man they also.
Jeff:The driver has the ability. It's not so much important on the indy 500 because they're just turning left, right, but he has weight transfer in his, on his wheel. So if he's going around a left turn he moves the weight inside. He presses a button and it tightens the coils, puts more weight on the inside. So Trent, dude, and they're doing this, you know, back and forth, back and forth. And then they said that on a street course they what is? I think it's camber, where the tires are pointed in and out. Yes, you know, so at a street course they'll point them out, uh, out, right, so it turns better. But on the Indy 500, they turn them both going this way. So as it goes around the corner, it makes sense yeah.
Jeff:It was just like super interesting stuff that I never thought of. Um, but for the race, like it was wild, there's this dude McLaughlin. He drives uh, I forget what car he drives this dude. You know how they do the swerving on the warm-up laps, the parade lap to warm up the tires. Bro loses it and goes into the wall.
Jason:Oh, bro, not even lap one. Yeah, dude, not even lap one. He was pissed, bro. He got out of the car.
Jeff:He was like this is a big deal, those drivers. He was like grown-ass man was crying, oh man was crying oh yeah, yeah, so, uh. So they had that crash before the race started. Embarrassing bro, that's what, probably why, he was really crying right oh yeah, yeah.
Jeff:So there were two crashes in pit lane that didn't even involve other cars, what? This dude comes through the pit lane and I guess, like, if you're driving on the indy 500, like very few times are you touching the brake, you know you're probably just lifting off the gas. He comes through the pit lane, he's like I ain't got no brakes and just slams it into the wall. And another guy just comes in way too hot into his pit and you know, thank god nobody got hurt, but no kidding, like slams into the wall as the dudes are on a knee to hit the, you know, hit the wheels and takes out his whole team. I don't think anybody got hurt. Everybody got up and did the pit stop. They like lifted the car and shoot it on the wall and then did the pit stop, dude.
Jason:I'm going to have to go back and watch this man.
Jeff:Yeah, you can do like just the highlights on YouTube. And it was a spectacle, but anyways, this dude, Alex I'm going to butcher his name, Palou won the Indy 500. And, gentlemen, drinks are on this guy to the tune of $3.8 million for winning the Indy 500.
Jason:What oh wow.
Jeff:There was a purse of $20.2 million spread across the field. Wow, okay, indy.
Erick:I see you, I see you All right, we're going to have to start. Okay, indy, I see you, I see you.
Jason:All right, we're going to have to start training for the Indy.
Jeff:So let's say this this is it. The Indy 500 took the cake when it came to F1. F1 at Monaco is a dumpster fire. We're not. I don't need to get into it. We can get into it if you want to.
Jason:Dumpster fire.
Jeff:I watched three hours at F1 at Monaco. I watched 73 parade laps around the track. The formation lap I already did it in formation.
Jason:Yeah, I got to agree with Jeff. You know what it is. I don't like the track of Monaco, but it's so iconic, right.
Jeff:You're right.
Jason:It's just part of history.
Erick:Yeah.
Jason:But as a racetrack it's terrible.
Jeff:I mean people were slowing down, like on purpose they were doing yeah like Alex Albon was doing like 10 seconds off his qualifying time just so his teammate could pull away Like I get it why they do it. It's just not good for the sport.
Jason:Like I understand it Right, those are the rules that they were given.
Jeff:They're trying to fix or not, they were given they're trying to fix or not fix, but they're trying to like make it more entertaining by adding a second pit stop, and that just made it worse that that second pit stop. Just I've heard a lot of people talking about taking that chicane out. Um, after the tunnel, so another drs zone, which is not a bad idea.
Jeff:Yeah, just a straight shot and then you get that gentle bend. Um, I don't know. They got to do something. They will do something because they're not going to do another um race like they had this week. But anyways, that's my announcements for the week. Electric indy 500 watch the highlights on youtube. I need to I need to.
Jason:I need, I need to go back and watch. You know, that was the choice. I had the choice of either the indy 500 or Monaco, because they were kind of happening Well, they weren't happening at the same time. But in Hawaii, when I woke up, those were my choices and I said it's either Indy or it's F1. So you know, of course, formula One all day, but I want to go back and watch it. Because I'm staying off the social media on purpose, because it's all over the place, all these posts, all the scandals and all this stuff.
Erick:That's wild, I got to get caught up too.
Jason:Yeah, indy 500 is probably the biggest racing event in the United States. I think that's so easy, I mean they're probably stuffing.
Jeff:I'd imagine 100,000 people.
Jason:Oh easy.
Jeff:Where F1 will do 200,000 to 300,000 over three days.
Jason:Yeah, but F1 is Indy does it on one day. F1 is multiple. It's not home to a single country, right? So you can't really compare it, right? So it's not like Indy is 100% American. That's an American thing, yeah, it's iconic right. Yeah, I would like to go to one in person.
Jeff:I think they're at Detroit this week. They're Detroit GP, don't quote me on that, but anyways, yeah, it's a street course this, this time for Indy. Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.
Jason:All right, well, leave that below or email us at the chicane podcast at gmailcom If you have any um answers to that or if you have any questions or comments concerns. But today, um, I think we'll hand this over to Eric for the next topic, as I'm seeing here.
Erick:Yes, sir, so in sim racing news. I love how he comes out. There's a level of class with.
Jason:Mr Kelly, bro, there's a level of class. I'll tell you.
Erick:Yeah, I just got to have some sort of you know transition trying to tie it in there. But in sim racing news a couple of games got updates. I'll start with the least important first, which is GT7. So they got updated to version 1.59. What do you mean, least important?
Jason:man, are you becoming what's going on with Eric Kelly? Now I'm sorry for interrupting but what's going? On up there in that brain of yours, no hate, I'm just calling it.
Erick:This is just a regular update Bro when you look at the notes.
Jeff:I thought it crossed my mind.
Erick:When you look at the notes, we already had the iRacing episode. That's iRacing 2.0, if I never heard it. That's massive, huge oh.
Erick:I can't wait for that one yeah this is just a little point. Update 1.59 it is what it is. Gt7 has some big updates in the past where they've changed physics and all that stuff. This ain't it. So, if you don't know, this is going to be quick. So they added four new cars. They added a Corvette Z06, the C501. They added the Ferrari 812 superfast from 2017. They added the Honda 812 Superfast from 2017. They added the Honda CR-V.
Jason:HEV A.
Erick:CR-V, bro, that ain't the worst one. It's like. That ain't the worst one. I ain't got to love it.
Jeff:What is?
Jason:this doing in Grand Service bro.
Erick:And the last car they added was the Suzuki Carry KC what the hell is that, you ask? And the last car they added was the Suzuki Carry KC.
Jason:What, oh goodness.
Erick:What the hell is that, you ask? Well, I'm going to go ahead and show you guys a picture of it.
Jeff:Yeah, let's see it bro let's see this hot rod.
Erick:Yeah, because this is.
Jeff:I'm sure it's got rims on it.
Erick:Oh yeah, man, I mean with today's episode it's just pushing 450 horsepower.
Jason:It's just fun. It's just bash. We're just having a good time today.
Erick:Look, so I had shit on my pedals. So so I'm traumatized, I'm sure, with the right tune you know, and you know the right modifications somebody better get some speed out of this 93 octane somebody gets some speed out of this guy killing me oh god
Jeff:yo those are super popular here at hawaii those are cool though there's, I mean they're, they're cool here in hawaii I don't know about racing them, though, you know I know about.
Erick:I know about racing, I know about racing them. They ain't cool for that.
Jason:It got 47 horsepower.
Erick:It's a 0.7 liter.
Jason:Why is it a five speed? First of all Because it probably can. 47 horsepower, 47?.
Jeff:Yeah, it's a 0.7 liter.
Jason:Why can't it be 50?
Erick:Inline three speed, I mean inline three cylinder.
Jeff:There's legitimately obviously, motorcycles that are twice, three times as well.
Erick:Wait a minute, it's 1500 pounds, though it doesn't weigh nothing for a car, but I'll say this no for GT7 is. You know, it's small, literally.
Jason:It is small.
Erick:Yeah, it's small, insignificant, not game-changing. Another sim did get an update, assetto Corsa Evo. They got release 0.2. And this update kind of shows that they're taking a different direction. Right now they're focusing more on content drops and less kind of on features. They did drop the full offline mode, so you can go full offline.
Erick:You have the option to pretty much access any cars in the game, but no settings are saved, no progress is saved and you still have the option to go online and actually progress and, you know, earn money and all that stuff currency in the game. They did that because they said that, which I think is a good thing. They said that feedback from the community made people feel like they were forcing them to go online and so they basically kind of redesigned the game to where the online and offline were more distinct feature sets and the offline you have everything, and then the online you can actually progress.
Jeff:That's cool that they're listening to people.
Erick:Yeah, they made that change, but I's cool that they're listening to people. Yeah, they made that change, but I think that there was a cost to it, right? So one of the costs was a change to the roadmap. So the roadmap initially had six content drops before the first initial release. That's been bumped up to eight content drops, which more content. That's great. The downside is they move the initial release, the 1.0 release, from the fall to sometime in the future which is the perfect storm for them to delay the game.
Erick:Oh yeah, so yeah, that's already delayed and also I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but on that roadmap as well, the open world piece.
Jason:It doesn't matter how you slice it, bro.
Erick:Well, so I think that at a certain point the full release is. That's nice to have.
Jason:I think they knew damn well that this game wasn't going to be ready by fall yeah yeah, come on.
Erick:Yeah, that was definitely ambitious Marketing. Yeah, marketing Marketing tactic. And now?
Jason:you want to charge us more for the game with this. Eight drops. Content is great, but why can't the content be? Well, wait a minute. These content drops are part of the timeline, right, you were saying.
Erick:Yeah, okay, add them to the timeline. So, no, yeah, no DLC. Okay, sorry, sorry.
Jason:I misjudged what I'm reading here. The content drops are the milestones right that they had on their roadmap. Got you, yeah, okay no-transcript.
Erick:Oh yeah, yeah, it's further. It's like end of the summer, early fall now, whereas they initially kind of had it on the roadmap and it was looking like it was going to be, you know, get into the summer, midsummer. So hopefully that doesn't slip too much further, because I think once they get the multiplayer and open world out there, I think that that'll be the bulk of the game be the bulk of the game, or or, or just make the game have mods so people can experiment with, yeah, the engine and put their own you know spice on it.
Jason:Why? Why force us to wait? Right, because the open world is a huge thing with this game yeah, yeah, if you look at the, trailer. That was like half the trailer was the open world yeah.
Erick:That's why I said, with the open world dropping before that initial release day. Anyway, I think once we get our hands on that, and depending on the state that it's in, how buggy it is or how problematic it is-.
Jason:It's in a pretty good state right now.
Erick:I would say yeah, the game's in a pretty good state Once the open world is out. I can tell you right now, I don't care what version number is on the game, for the most part. Yeah, we want to drive around Nuremberg and the neighborhood and see other drivers around.
Jason:That's what we want to see. That's what got everybody excited for this. That's what got everybody excited for this. Set aside the evolution of the game right, the new ACC combined with AC had a baby type of deal. But when you mentioned open world, a lot of us kind of got excited.
Erick:Yeah, I think that's kind of the long pole in the tent for them is the state of that, because that'll really be the difference maker. And before I wrap it up, I did want to go over the cars that were released. So, like I said, I think they're doing the best, they're taking the best route, which is the initial release is obviously delayed, but they're giving us something in return. They're giving us some more content. So I think this is probably the most cars they've dropped in the single drop. So we have the alfa romeo uh, gulia, sprint gta. We have the lotus uh, how do you say that? Exceed?
Jason:I like that alfa romeo dude that looks dope 75 turbo oh, yeah, yeah, that I mean.
Erick:Obviously over here in the States that's not a very common car, but the community was very excited about that. We got the Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6. We have the Mazda M5 NA Jason-.
Jason:Oh, that's an 80s Porsche too, man.
Erick:Yeah, that one is. It says from the 80s.
Jason:Yeah, 3.6 liter turbo nice.
Erick:Yeah, classic, that classic Porsche 911 body style, hell yeah.
Jeff:Yeah, they dropped a little like an error 80s to 90s error cars, which is cool.
Erick:Yeah, and Jason's favorite car, the Mazda MX-5.
Jason:The Viata that's what I call them.
Jeff:Call what you want, but I bet it don't have shit on its brake pedal. That's right.
Jason:Oh man, oh man, You're laying it on thick now.
Jeff:It keeps coming, just like the dog, the dog laid it on thick, bro, she went straight.
Jason:no chaser on me.
Erick:Oh yeah, that's definitely. I'm already looking about next year. That's definitely going to be on the highlight reel.
Jason:I'm telling you, man, this is, I'm going to have a doo-doo on the thumbnail. I'm thinking about it.
Erick:The emoji little thing, that's that real clickbait right there, man. That's that real clickbait right there. But to wrap up the cars, they added the Honda NSX-R from the early 1990s, maserati GT2 and the Alfa Romeo 75 Turbo Evoluzione from the 80s.
Jason:Hell yeah, bro, look at that Maserati they gave us some pretty ones. The game is looking good like an era From the 80s.
Erick:Hell yeah bro, ooh look at. Maserati yeah, they gave us some pretty ones. Yeah, the game is looking good Like an era.
Jason:Yeah, it is looking good. It is looking good. Set aside my negativity with just the business practice of it.
Jeff:I don't care at the end of the day, Coda came out. Huh yeah.
Erick:Yeah, they added Coda and they added Donington Park.
Jeff:Oh came out. Huh, yeah, and yeah, they added coda and they added, uh, donnington park.
Jason:Oh, all right I haven't got in there cars since the drop. Oh no, you, you, it's way better, jeff really a hundred thousand percent better yeah, they also did um.
Erick:Obviously I don't have triple screens, but they um optimized barely. Yeah, optimized for triples and optimized VR more. That's also kind of still on track as far as the drops to-.
Jason:Another thing, jeff, is the UI. Remember how it was all laggy and stuff. Nice, yeah, they fixed that.
Jeff:Okay.
Jason:Yeah, coda Soccer of the Americas, nice.
Jeff:Dude, I don't think they're releasing anything open wheel.
Jason:Oh, that's right, no more.
Jeff:Damn. Yeah, I did a search for it the other day and I didn't see anything planned they're going to have to release open wheel.
Jason:That's impossible, man, yeah, yeah.
Erick:I feel like that's going to be like a DLC.
Jeff:I'll pay for a DLC, come on.
Erick:Yeah, because I think the community is there. I don't think there's any way. You can not.
Jason:Oh yeah, that's a big F1 community, man, huge, not bigger than the GT community, but it's pretty up there. It's up there, definitely up there.
Erick:Can't let iRacing have all the fun yeah.
Jason:I wouldn't think that 90s cars are more important than F1 cars. I would say F1 cars are more desired to drive.
Jeff:Yeah that's what makes me I mean. I'm pretty sure when I was looking through that they didn't have anything.
Jason:Maybe they're afraid of the game crashing because the Formula cars is too damn fast yeah.
Jeff:I wish you were right, I know.
Erick:If I had to guess, I would say that they're probably staying away from the more technical cars.
Jason:Ah, that makes sense.
Erick:Yeah, you think about those formula cars and, you know, Like P1 cars they don't have hybrid cars.
Jason:Yeah, those cars have a bunch of different modifications systems. Yeah, so that kind of seems to be. F1 has like ERS you got the DRS, you got A lot of systems, Different modifications systems, yeah yeah. So that kind of seems to be F1 has like ERS you got the DRS, you got, yeah, yeah, brake, bias and traction control. I mean, most cars have that, but you know like hybrid systems.
Erick:I know Alfa Romeo from the 80s. You ain't got that.
Jason:I ain't got no 80s, you don't? That's just so true, yeah so I mean those are. I'm sorry, eric, my head hasn't been straight man. Hey, man, that's why we're here, man no. I got shit on my brake pedal. Man that messed me up.
Erick:Yeah, man, you've been traumatized. Man, we got you, though we got you All right man. Hey, thanks a lot for covering that.
Jason:That's actually a good update and it's, you know, it's free. It's free not charging, and it's not quality, it looks good, you know. I'll add just a little bit to your um, to your report here on updates. Sim hub had an update just before we started recording the podcast I thought I saw something up there when I booted and f125 has support for sim hub. Yay, yay, that's about it. In other news, the sun's coming out tomorrow.
Jeff:I watched some, since we'll touch on this since you opened this up. I watched like a handful of reviews early this morning and they were like oh, this is a couple steps forward, like you're so foolish.
Erick:No it isn't.
Jason:Got a graphic refresh and rebanded. Yeah, yeah, just wait for the game to come out. There's really no reason to preorder things anyway. People saying it was like 90 bucks or something, $90 for this.
Jeff:That might have been for console anyways. Yeah, I saw something on YouTube. They were like 90 bucks for this and I was like damn, it's $90 no way, they must have got like the deluxe edition. Yeah, probably.
Erick:That's crazy.
Jeff:Not impressed. They're not going to buy it.
Jason:Yeah, well, it wouldn't surprise me if it is, because look at the Nintendo, switch, nintendo and what they're doing with their games and bumping up their prices, and sadly, that's how things are. Man, all it takes is that one person to say I'm charging $10 more for this and everybody starts to buy. If you're on PC.
Jeff:There's no reason to go to F1. Yeah, dude, assetto Corsa with a content manager. The F1 cars, they're $3. Skins are free and it's awesome. I sent you guys that video of Monaco that I was driving this week and it's killing.
Erick:Yeah, that was legit For real.
Jason:Yeah, you can pick up a Settled Corsa on sale for like $10.
Erick:Yeah, it's crazy, $10.
Jeff:Yeah, it's crazy, DRS ERS, and it's awesome. Yeah, it's crazy, DRS ERS. You know it's got everything and I'm going to tell you right now.
Jason:That is the best $10 you will ever spend.
Jeff:Ever spent Other than SimHub?
Erick:Yeah, I was about to say second to SimHub Fair, fair.
Jason:It comes in a close second bro.
Erick:So does SimHub add mouse support.
Jason:No, I didn't go too deep into it, installed it and I jumped on the. I jumped on the. Well, we'll check and see. I would be. I would make an entire episode if they put my support on this show. I'm going to send out an email to the CEO, whoever it is over there at EA games.
Erick:Be like just God bless you. That's it. They deserve the hate mail.
Jason:Just hats off. Want to have a live coach available on demand? With Trophy AI, you'll be able to practice with Mansell AI at your convenience A real-time coach in your headphones to navigate and guide you through the track, helping you achieve race pace. This tool is awesome as it provides full brake, throttle and steering telemetry on screen, with the live review getting you ready for your next big race. Check links to T trophy ai in the description and also use chicane 12 in all caps for a 12 discount. Yeah, but anyways, all right guys.
Jeff:So I think we got one more right, jeff, what you got for us this week yeah, I've been talking a couple last couple weeks, probably cast a couple months, of some mods I've been doing to my rig. I shouldn't be surprised. I drive mostly Formula. Honestly, since F1 started I've been jumping in like I was saying content manager and I've been driving the track that they have been for that week, which has been kind of cool because I get to watch the weekend, warm up and practice and all these other things and I can change my line to watch what they're doing and it's just fun to you know, see how they're taking corners and, uh, just be doing basically what you're watching on TV.
Jeff:But anyway, so I put you know some, uh, you know like the fuselage, so you're in there and you can feel you know the side of the car on your hands and stuff to make it more feel like a F1 car, similar to guys that put the netting and the seats and the fire extinguisher. It's kind of like that idea, the immersion. But what I wanted to do is I was looking at some of the F1 pictures and videos of the actual cockpits and the drivers have some switches by their like knees. It's not a dashboard per se, behind the wheel, it's all by their knees and it's all vertically mounted so I wanted to take my switches that was my ignition and starter and move it down there. So it's much more um f1 feel like the immersion and when I wear vr I look down, the switch is there and I can reach for it and it's there in real life, which is super cool.
Jeff:Yeah, yeah, it lines up and you actually feel it's awesome um, so I had that and I saw that they have like a kill switch. So when they crash they reach over and just turn this big like handle and it disconnects the battery. So I wanted to have my push button starter and things on the left and build a little kill switch on my right so when I crash or when I want to go back to the pits, I just turn that and it brings me back to the pits. I turn it again and it takes me out of the game. You know, just like even more immersion. But I couldn't. I went to the bottom that's a good use of it.
Jeff:Yeah, um, trying to find a vertical mounted, so switch, and then below the switch is the button to push start. Not side by side, everything was side by side, uh, and I was like dedicated to figuring this out. So I found this youtube dude um, I can't remember what, what it is, it's uh, but anyways, I'll post. We'll post it in the comments, but he shows you a very straightforward video how to make these things and dudes, it's like 15 and you're done here. So I'm going to show you what you need to buy.
Jason:Let's share this.
Jeff:Let me see this.
Jason:This is.
Jeff:Skillshare for free, ready, so check this out. $12. And you get this. It's $12.85, though Wait a minute, oh, excuse me, so you're $13, right, and this comes with basically everything you need, and then you go buy the switches and buttons that no soldering.
Erick:Want no soldering required, zero plug and play all plug and play, um.
Jeff:So then you go buy the switches and plugs that you want to be, you know, to fit your rig, um. So I'm going to stop there and um, and then I'm going to show you what I did and bought for my setup to be exactly the way I wanted it. So I bought the um.
Jeff:You'll see the push button, the ignition switch and the push button spark right, so bought that Um and like it's so easy to to connect these things, you take the end of those blue and white wires that I was showing you, you connect them to. There's two wires and there's two connectors on the switch. It's stupid proof and if you mess it up you'll know when you map it to a button. It will just figure it out and switch it for you and then just plug it into the board. And then there's a USB cable that it only goes in one connector and you plug it into your computer and then you can go to make sure you verified it. You go, you can go to. Uh, if you just do a search in your computer for USB joystick, go in there. It will sense the board and then you can make sure that you can flip the switches.
Jeff:It lights up, right it lights up, absolutely, um, and so that way you can test it to make sure it works before you put it into whatever board you're going to do. So then was my there was. My next issue was trying to figure out a way Look at you, man, you're professional now, man, yeah. So then I was like, oh, you know what, he lives nearby. I got a 3D printer.
Jeff:I can make the thing exactly like I want. So I went in and made this thing on Tinkercad. I'm a beginner at this and this is what I just made on Tinkercad and this was my first go at it, so I didn't put the holes in it.
Jeff:I might need a crash course with you, dude, about this, and I just printed it out, um, and I'll bring up what it came out to be. This was my first version one. This is v1 v1. I had no intention, oh yeah, just wanted to, so I realized that it's too wide, like this is my phone going off all day I was so pumped I made this thing.
Jeff:I made it like, yeah, you buy that on etsy right. And I made it um, and I was like, oh, it's too wide. So I went and, um, my leg would hit, you know, the the left side or the it's yeah, it's right side with my left leg, um. So I made another one um, and like I would just over the course of a week, and you made it to be exactly custom as you wanted it. Um, that's dope, yeah. So here is um, the final version of the starter, and I wrapped it in carbon fiber, um, and it looks killer, right, and it's mounted flush.
Jeff:I'll show you here in a second. But, gentlemen, like, if you have a 3d printer, it's mounted flush. I'll show you here in a second. But, gentlemen, if you have a 3D printer, it's legitimately $15. And I have something that isn't on anybody else's rig anywhere.
Jeff:Yeah, it doesn't exist and it was $15. I love it. So that was one, hooked it up, works great. And then I decided I wanted to make the um the push button starter or the kill switch, excuse me. So I did the same thing, um, and designed that nice you know and just added a little reinforcements there because there's a little bit of pressure on it and the the side without um is the one that gets mounted on the on the rig, and it prints like that on the on its side.
Jeff:Yep, no, I actually I rotated it, I think, on its side. Nope, I printed it off like this Okay, this way I didn't even have to maneuver it. Um, and there was no trees or nothing for this one bamboo for the wind, bro dude like it's so easy with bamboo. I don't know if it is more difficult or harder or not um with other ones, but bamboo like dude. My son is now doing this after school, so here, yeah, so here's the final product.
Erick:Oh, yeah, that's. Look at that man. That's something you should pay for right there look at that.
Jason:look at the shine's something you should pay for right there. Look at that. Look at the shine, bro, is he going to turn it? Is he going to turn it? Is he going to?
Jeff:turn it? I don't think so. One-handed, no, no, no.
Erick:I was like there's nobody holding the phone.
Jason:Okay, so I kind of understand now a little better because it's like, it's like at an angle, like a corner angle, so you can like put it on the.
Jeff:Yeah, smart, my. This is where it gets mounted to the side of my rig that you'll see here in a second, and behind here is all like the guts right. And then I had I did make a little box that that controller goes in and it just mounts nice and smooth behind the scenes. You can't see it, if I, and the best part is is, if I want to add another thing, I just buy the switch and plug it in. I don't have to do any of the other wiring, you just plug it into that little box. So I have one on each side and I think it has 15 ports that you can plug things into. Yep, 15 switches that customize. I can make my own button box, you know, for whatever it is. So, um. So, eric, eric, I know what you were talking about here, as you're going to share your rig. So this is me being nervous here. I'm going to show my rig to the world here, but I love it. I think it came out fantastic.
Jason:Yeah, yeah, save the comments.
Jeff:I know it's probably not nearly as nice as other people.
Erick:No, you got a nice rig, stop playing, yeah, so here it is, here it is gang um I'll play it as I demonstrate how I started up and things oh, look at the look at this, look at this, look at this. This is what he's nervous bro you look.
Jason:It looks like you legitimately inside a freaking yeah when you turn the lights off, it's super nice.
Jeff:The lights are just on here and that board's all cleaned up um. The lights are just on, so you can see what I'm doing, but you can see the steering wheel ignition goes on I'm telling you bro yeah, man, you got this ready.
Jason:You got this ready lovely dashboard.
Jeff:And then you. I just stop it here, basically so you can see what I do with the kill switch. Goes back to the pits. Do it again. Goes back to the menu Get me out of here.
Jeff:Yeah, that's sick, that's cool, what I really want to tell people is like, I'm not super technologically advanced. I'm pretty good with my hands. I can figure out a wiring diagram, basic stuff like that, but for like 15 bucks and a couple, you know, a couple hours after work at night, you know, and the sun and my, my, my little dude was, you know, figuring out the, the, the, the, you know, the ticker CAD with me. Um, I'm super happy with how it came out. I love it. It's mine. There's nobody else in the world that has one like it.
Jason:um, and it was like 15 bucks and you made something out of thin, basically nothing out of an idea in your head. That's, that's the beauty of 3d printing man.
Jeff:So I'm super happy with it. Um love how the rig looks and stuff, so I just wanted to share that with everybody. It looks awesome like hey, like, even if you don't have a 3d printer, you could probably jimmy up you know some plywood or something like that and, uh, mount it to a rig somehow. But yeah, I just wanted to share. I saw that and then on the youtube, that's a good I'll share the link and stuff um.
Jeff:But yeah, super cool if you, a lot of our listeners, have 3d printers that I, you know have the ability, they probably already doing this stuff. Who am I? I don't know, but there are probably a lot of people that didn't, because I found it um you'd be surprised the amount of questions people have with this stuff.
Jason:Oh yeah, there's always somebody wanting to know how to do something.
Jeff:Yeah, reach out, Happily help people out if you got any questions. But really it's very intuitive there you go, guys.
Jason:I'm happy to talk to people. Email the show at thechicanepodcasts at gmailcom. That's right. But it's that time, and we haven't done this in a long time but it's that time bro what time? The track of the week and this time Eric has got it. He's had it for maybe three weeks now, but we've just been.
Erick:We've been a little busy, so I'm going to make it seem like this was. This was just like pre-meditated guess it because it's just kind of a coincidence the track of the week and what just happened.
Jason:Oh, that's right, that does make sense Almost like we planned it.
Jeff:Yeah, oh, look at that, eric, you knocked it out of the park.
Erick:Yeah, man, so this was all a part of the plan.
Jeff:We're that good.
Erick:Exactly Been waiting on this. So, uh, what were you gonna say, jason? Yes, I don't know.
Jason:I'm looking at the shape of it. It looks like a pair of vr goggles from the front, that side.
Erick:You know how I usually mess with the shape oh yeah, it's either a boot, or a cigarette or something I don't know yeah, this is pretty, kind of pretty straightforward for the most part. Yeah, I mean not much going on there, which is crazy. Jeff, you kind of mentioned in some of the statistics on just how popular this track is. They added a road course, and I'm just kind of going through.
Jeff:How did they added a road course? I?
Erick:didn't know it had a road course. Yeah, they added that back in 2000. And I'm just kind of going over the layouts because they don't change that much.
Jeff:Four turns let's not glaze over the fact there, eric, that it went. What 90, 90, 80 something years untouched?
Erick:yeah like hey getting their turn four times and again, and again, if it ain't broken, don't fix it I know right and it's one of the most popular races um. That's events really um, and it just shows how simple we are. We'll take a lot. You make loud noises, we go fast.
Jeff:We didn't slow it down because people get hurt this is true.
Jason:Well, we don't know yet. We don't know yet.
Jeff:Sorry.
Jason:We've had some changes here, Jeff. I don't know.
Erick:Yeah, we'll get into the.
Jason:We were good for 90 years. Like you said, Damn near.
Erick:Yeah, at a certain point it's like, hey, we just need to figure out how to stop running. Yeah, we might want to resurface the surface.
Jason:I mean it's been almost 100 years now.
Erick:Yeah, so, speaking of that, we mentioned 100 years. So the inaugural race for this track happened August 14th 1909. This is, like I say, one of the biggest events right that's hosted at this track the Indianapolis 500. It's obviously in Indianapolis, indiana, and this track has a very famous nickname and it is called the Brickyard right and so initially the Brickyard.
Jeff:I didn't knowyard the Brickyard. I didn't know that the Brickyard 400 is raced here, allegedly, I would imagine. Yep, which you're probably going to tell us.
Erick:Yeah, we're going to get to it. I like the excitement because I know, with you kind of going over the crazy shenanigans that were happening this past week, this track has a lot more attention Bro nothing beats the pennies at freaking Alton Park that one takes the cheese Nothing beats that. I'm interested.
Jason:Let's hear it.
Erick:We're going to try to top it though. So we did mention the Brickyard, and the nickname came from the fact that the surface was paved entirely by bricks 3.2 million bricks 3.2 million bricks, so they racing on bricks bro. They were racing on bricks for 90 years, basically.
Jason:Well, 80 years basically, and so now it's mostly asphalt.
Erick:Oh yeah, you know it was those poor cars, but now it's mostly asphalt. Oh yeah, yeah, you know it was those poor cars, yeah, but now it's mostly asphalt. They do have kind of an homage to the original bricks. They have a little patch near the start-finish line. It's called a yard of bricks. So you can still see, like those bricks there on the course, the pale mosh to the course's heritage, to pay homage to their, to the course's heritage. And we mentioned earlier kind of how many people possibly show up to, you know, one of these events. So the capacity for seating is 250,000 seats. Whoa what 250,000 seats.
Erick:Quarter of a million people. Quarter million butts in seats.
Jeff:One day, not like a weekend.
Erick:Not a weekend. Physical butts in seats 250K.
Jason:Damn bro, Dude, that one doesn't end a weekend.
Erick:That does not include the infield where you can camp and all those people with tents and all that stuff.
Jason:Oh, these are 250,000 seats.
Erick:Physical seats.
Jason:Physical seats we're not counting the standing areas or anything like that.
Erick:The standing areas, the infield. When you're at the infield, it can exceed 300,000 people.
Jason:Damn.
Erick:When you talk about a party, when you talk about boys, that's a small army, bro.
Jason:What are you talking about?
Jeff:That's a city, that city in Apples becomes like the biggest city in the Midwest that weekend.
Erick:Yeah, and this is a two and a half mile oval track.
Jason:Imagine the parking bro and trying to leave after the race. That's why people be leaving like right before, like right before the podium.
Jeff:That's why you camp right. Yeah, that's why you camp right. Yeah, you might as well just-. That's why they camp.
Erick:That's a great good example. Yeah, you just grab a beer and-.
Jeff:Then you got too much beer in your team.
Jason:Oh, you have a few beers, bro, I'm eight.
Jeff:You got beer drinking. Yeah, you feel like leaving and looking around In.
Erick:America. Oh yeah, yeah. Well, you feel like man. There's like 299 000 people around me I guess all I can do is have another beer at this point, because uh that's right nowhere, yeah, but um, uh, as we mentioned earlier, some of the races.
Erick:Obviously, the indianapolis 500 is one of the biggest races that's been held there since 1911 and sell annually on memorial day weekend, so just kind of tying those two things together. They also used to hold the Brickyard 400 there. That was a NASCAR race. That happened from 1994 to 2020. And now they call it the Verizon 200. And it's actually held on the road course, so they're not using the oval for that, they're using the road course. They have the IndyCar Grand Prix, which is also held on the Enfield Road course. They have the IMSA Sports Car Championship, which just picked back up in 2023. Formula One for a while was hosting the Grand Prix there from 2000 to 2007. They have a MotoGP that was hosted there from 2008 to 2015. And they have the Endurance and racing uh series that happened there and also do some test events as well. So very actively used track, heavily used. You know this. I guess just with the amount of space and seating and stuff there you can, they haven't do anything in there yeah they probably do concerts there too?
Jason:probably yeah I was going to say that um I know daytona does, daytona does like all kinds you can do whatever you want there with that amount of seating so for.
Erick:So for context, right, um, some nfl stadiums hold 100, 000, 120, 120,000. One of the biggest college football stadiums, the Ohio Buckeyes right. Their stadium holds, I believe, 118,000 people.
Jason:That's one of the largest stadiums right and they have 250,000 butts.
Jeff:Thanks to the.
Erick:Indy.
Jeff:Which is crazy. That's crazy.
Erick:That's hard to wrap your head around, oh yeah so as far as notable turns, anything like that, it's four turns not to downplay it not to make it seem like it's less difficult.
Jason:I just like, so yeah.
Jeff:I was watching the race, eric, and when they come out of turn two and four they don't go wide Like they come out of they. They dive tight into turn like one and two and then they go out. But then they come. When they're going down the stretch, they come back in towards the, the, the, the. When they're going down the stretch, they come back in towards the infield. It's the weirdest thing.
Jeff:Shorter distance, bro, but they were out. They come in and then they go back out and then they dive into the corner. I don't know if they're doing it because they're trying to break the person behind them, but it was just interesting what you said.
Jason:Oh, like weaving. I got to see this, I got to watch it, I got to see this, I got to watch it.
Erick:So it's funny because I was watching somebody stream this and they kind of I don't know they might watch the podcast, because they were talking specifically about hey, I want to try oval racing because I play out racing and I normally just do GT3, f1. They were like I'm going to try oval racing and he literally was mentioning that same thing. He was confused because he was like I don't know why they're like weaving out after they come out of certain turns, like. He's like I don't like when you think about GT3 or F1 racing, you think about it's like the fastest line, you know most efficient line. He's like they're not taking that, they're doing some other stuff, dude.
Jeff:Yeah, I'm not gonna, yeah, I'm not gonna how much they're moving back and forth, like, yeah, I'm like, ah, ah, like yeah, I'm not gonna pretend like they only get like I know how, why they're doing it. So yeah, it's a, it's mind-blowing. They'll like two wide, three wide, no big deal, four wides. The announcers start to get excited, that's it. But they're going like 200 and something miles an hour and they're like weaving. It's crazy, yeah that's.
Jason:There's a call out to george anzaldo, the sim gaming god, please respond. Below he's a huge. In the 500 indie they had their whole. What is it? Their, their, their league was straight up in. He'll be able to tell us what they were doing.
Erick:Yeah, I'm pretty sure.
Jason:Because I'm not going to pretend on the show here. I'm not a.
Erick:We're guessing.
Jason:Yeah, I'm not an oval guy. I'm not an oval guy. Yeah, I'd imagine I'm interested though I'm interested because when I race it it's a shit ton of fun. I just watching it is a little more difficult for me, but racing it is intense as hell.
Jeff:Yeah, Dude, they were showing some of the drivers like coming out of the turns and they're not even moving, the wheel Just and the back end's gone and you're just like whoa Holy cow. Like I thought F1 was touchy.
Erick:Yeah, they're hammered down too. Yeah, it seems a lot more. It seems like you're like on the not even on the edge, you're like driving past the edge. It's probably traction is like what's traction that we use that sometimes, but yeah, it's like we're just flying really low.
Jeff:We're not driving at this point exactly oh yeah.
Erick:Hell yeah, but to kind of almost wrap up some more stuff with the track, there's some historical moments. The first Annapolis 500 was in 1911. That was won by Mr Ray Huron in a Barman Wasp. I don't know what that is. I don't know what kind of car that is, something with wheels, bro, it was probably really fast.
Jeff:what kind of car that is? What wheels bro it? Was probably really fast at the time Wheels and motor Probably bro 1911.
Erick:1961, that was the last year bricks were fully visible before they were all paved over. Oh, wow, yeah, so kind of a major turning point. A major turning point 1994 was NASCAR's first Brickyard 400, and it was won by no one other than Mr Jeff Gordon, the first one, yep. And of course you had F1 there in 2000, 2005, and Mr Michael Schumacher was dominating, yeah he dominated everything.
Jeff:Dominating everything. It didn't matter whether they got a job on the moon and he would dominate, putting built-a-ass, like he usually does Built-a-ass In 2008,.
Erick:They had their first MotoGP event there In 2020, the Motor Speedway was purchased by Mr Roger Penske.
Jeff:Oh yeah, revitalizing, that's your friend, jeff.
Jason:Nothing to see here. Get his email real quick, jeff. Get his email, yeah.
Erick:Tell him we want to interview him, we want to get his story Tell him.
Jason:We want to discuss some things, yeah, in a virtual space.
Erick:Yeah, and then in 2021, nascar and IndyCar both raced the same weekend, which was historic.
Jeff:That's crazy. That's never happened back in 2020. It's just a logistical problem.
Jason:I mean it's cool to have a track this old. I mean the oldest track that we've done on the Chicane Podcast was Spa. Right? Spa is in 1920, right 1920?
Jeff:Yeah, so probably just a handful of years. No, yeah, no, you're probably pretty close.
Jason:You know what? I got the facts right here. Hold on.
Erick:I was about to say you know what?
Jeff:It probably is right, Because it was made before World War II 1921.
Jason:1921. So I was a year off.
Erick:Yeah, yeah.
Jason:So this is definitely one of the oldest ones we've covered, so this is one of the oldest tracks and it's American, so I don't think honestly.
Jeff:we've got to look and see the rest of the world's like yeah, figures Boring.
Jason:I know right.
Erick:Yeah, so that's what I was going to say. Like, looking at the history, there was no war ties or military-based stuff.
Jason:I know it's like the shortest track of the week ever bro.
Jeff:Yeah, it's interesting. All you Americans care about is going fast and turning left, that's it.
Erick:Hey, don't forget being loud, right.
Jeff:Yeah, I had that too.
Erick:Yeah, yeah, this was definitely one of the. It's kind of one of those kind of feel good tracks, I think.
Jeff:Great Americana. Watch that Great heritage.
Jason:I think it's different. I think it's very different when you attend something in person. Oh yeah, the energy is very different.
Jeff:Dude, 250 million people, like on your. You know, when they come across the line with the green flag drops like.
Jason:I can't imagine how many hot dogs are they bringing hamburgers?
Jeff:How do you feed these people? That's dude. That is a mind-blowing talk.
Jason:Just imagine how do you feed these people. How do you feed them?
Erick:Yeah you can't. What's the space?
Jeff:look like for a million hot dogs. It's $12 a hot dog, that's probably what it is and they do qualify, I charge them whatever I want. The qualifying for this is the weekend before, so it stretches two weekends and they're doing race. Yeah, I mean legitimately, probably what. 5 million people through the gate? It's a party.
Jason:That's what this is.
Jeff:You know, if you add up all the days I'm making something.
Erick:Maybe it's like two, two, two million people, you know yeah that's possible, yeah so I know on the infield kind of the idea is that.
Jason:That's where that's still a shit ton of people, though yeah, on the infield there.
Erick:Basically, if you're in the infield, you're not, you're getting there and you're there for the week. Basically, like, people are parking there, they're getting campers, they're setting up food, food trucks. They also talk about them having concerts while racing isn't going on.
Jeff:That's cool man, that's dope.
Erick:It's a spectacle, yeah, a spectacle. It's like Coachella with racing Formula's, like that though right, yeah, they have concerts and stuff.
Jeff:It's turned into more than just the race. Yeah, the thing I like about Formula dude is that they got it's turned into more than just the race.
Jason:Yeah, yeah.
Jeff:The thing I like about.
Jason:Formula dude is that they got that Porsche League. Man, that's sick bro. I'm so jealous. That was the one that flew by you and it was loud as hell and you were like I can't hear a freaking thing.
Erick:All right, cool track of the week.
Jason:I think it was perfect selection there, eric, and I think it was perfect timing because we've had this planned. Yeah, then it kind of worked out. So we did get a request from a member at the grl for a track. I haven't forgotten about that request and we will put that through. But all right, so we've reached the end of the show here. We're just going to go over some questions that are long due here. Yeah, we've been kind of busy with just content. You know content, but still, it's always a pleasure to go over your questions and cover those here on the show. So, without further ado, I'll go and I'll cover the first one, right? So let me.
Jason:We got an email from Mark Fleming, and Mark Fleming says well, he's emailed the show before, so thank you so much, mark. He says hi guys, here's some updated pictures of the rig. I was holding off for the merch to arrive. So thank you so much for that. I appreciate you. Supporting the show was built and ready in about three days. However, wasn't just right. It's never just right, bro, it's never just right. There was plenty of sore knees and fingertips. Yeah, oh yeah, I can relate, and we're about to, I'm about to show you pictures here in a second.
Jeff:Let's see this bad larry. It is a zero to fuck me build.
Jason:I'm returning, simmer, join iRacing 2011 with Fanatec GT2 and GT3 RS wheelbases. I've been on and off for years, so it says enjoy, keep up the great content. I'm jealous of your beautiful island and island isn't just as beautiful Northern Ireland. So here we go. I am going to share my screen. Let me get this. Let me get this.
Jeff:Let's see what Mark's rocking here.
Jason:Yeah, we got to. I got to get this for dramatic effect, like the whole thing you know. So we just got to do this. You got to bear with me while we get this up, but here we go, Check out, oh yeah.
Jeff:Check out what's in the right corner, first of all before we even get into the rig.
Jason:Yes, oh yeah, and check out my dude, check out my man with a with a glass of wine. Hey, is that?
Jeff:sun still up, or is the sun coming back up?
Jason:I have no idea. It's a good question, man. We gotta ask you you know what, though?
Jeff:that is a, that's a setup right there oh yeah I love it set up to be proud of yep, he's got the active pedals.
Jason:He's got a bdh shifter thousand dollars sim lab.
Erick:I love it oh yeah, he cried. What's the?
Jeff:shift. Yeah, what's, what's the shifter doing over there?
Jason:I, I think he, oh, I'm being sarcastic.
Jeff:Yeah, I'm being sarcastic different, different strokes for different folks man, you know he's like I don't make the rules, that's a killer setup buddy yeah, I love it that's beautiful.
Erick:I love the minimal it's.
Jason:It's minimal, but then it has everything that you'd ever need, right.
Jeff:I'm going to say something that's going to trigger somebody here, but look how clean that seat looks. Bro, Look how clean it looks.
Jason:We got a lead by example, bro, he'll get there Nice and clean. You're terrible.
Erick:I'm going to send him a sticker.
Jason:bro, that's what I'm going to do.
Erick:Oh yeah, I love the clean.
Jeff:Yeah, just clean. Great wire management.
Jason:Look at this For now.
Jeff:Yeah, touche For now.
Jason:Touche. He said he built this in three days. I'm impressed.
Erick:Oh yeah, he was sleeping in there.
Jason:I see you with the guitar strings. Man Can't hide from me. I see you.
Jeff:Yeah, nice setup, dude, his setup is dope.
Jason:Look at that nice button box here. It's clean. Oh, he's got that lighting for the dramatic effect.
Erick:Oh yeah.
Jason:Let's see what else.
Jeff:Oh, look at that man that's a good looking shirt right there.
Jason:Man, thank you so much for the support. I really appreciate it. Mark, Thank you so much for sending out this email.
Erick:Yeah, it is.
Jason:I really like the rug. If you ever get tired of it, just email the show.
Erick:They say throw it across the pond.
Jeff:That's it. Great setup though dude, super clean, quality stuff there, stuff there he's got the audio technica.
Jason:That's. That's what I'm rocking right now, man, hell yeah oh yeah right there, yeah the simulac uh, p1x, I think, yeah, is it an amp?
Erick:kicker down there on the left oh it looks like it maybe yeah oh, yeah, he's. Yeah, he went zero to 100 man that might be a different.
Jeff:It doesn't look it does look a little.
Jason:I don't see an led um it looks a little different, but honestly, a shaker is a shaker dude yeah, don't worry about that fair point.
Jeff:Yeah, good setup, dude, that's something to be, that's something to be proud of congrats, mark. That is a beautiful setup yes, sir and stop listening to us now get back in there and drive I know right or you can.
Jason:You can do both yeah, or you can join the league, bro, and drive with us. How about that? Yeah, hey there you go all right, so I think I got. I think I got. Uh, or eric, you want to take the next one? We actually have yeah.
Erick:I'll take this next one Multiple. And yeah, I got a couple, I got a couple.
Jason:I've been meaning to do this.
Erick:Yeah, we appreciate it. Just like I said, content and you know, if you listen to the last episode that I recently update, this was a monster. We knew it was going to be big but it just took over like crazy. But so this is an email from Mr Chad Hanning. He says good morning guys. First of all, I love the show. Listen. Every week I've attached a few photos of my rig I've been slowly working on for a little over a year now. Pedals are my own build with stainless cut pieces, stainless cut pieces on my plasma table and 3D printed parts. I love it Stainless cut.
Jeff:Stainless cut Dude. I'm ashamed that I just did my little gadget with a switch on it and this dude's plasma cutting his own brakes, hey man.
Jason:I hope you smoothed that over. Man, that was slice something yeah.
Erick:So he has some 3d printed parts on there as well. He says, as you can see lots of other 3d printed pieces. Most of them are my designs using fusion. The entire plywood portion of the rig is my design using fusion, and my cnc routers also. Oh yeah, he's. He's serious about this oh man uh, he says just wanted to send these over. Yeah, knowing you were looking for feedback on the use of 3d printers and sim racing. Keep up the great work, chad. We appreciate it and I'm gonna oh yeah, chad.
Jeff:Thank you, boss, yeah something tells me chad knows what he's doing with this stuff, like he uses this cnc stuff for a living. This isn't the type of stuff you do in your spare time.
Erick:Yeah, no, you don't just go out and be like you know what. I don't know what CNC is, but I'm going to buy a machine.
Jeff:I'm going to just start doing it Plasma cutters, dude, this is. I love this stuff. When somebody's like you know what I think I can design something that might be better than I can buy.
Erick:Yep be better than I can buy yep, and so and it's theirs right? Nobody else has something like that look at this and you kind of get to custom fit it, add as you want. I am a veteran of the wooden rig build so I've been there and you know it. It works, man is and it also is great. Just you know, knowing that you that's clean bro get to use.
Jason:Is that a cigarette ashtray? What is that?
Erick:I think it's probably a cup holder.
Jason:That's a big cup holder dude.
Erick:That might be an idea though.
Jason:That's a big cup. We don't have that here in Hawaii, man, I haven't heard that in a long time. Well, maybe we do, maybe we do. I just don't go to 7-Eleven like that.
Jeff:Dude. I like this stuff. This is his set there ain't nobody else that's got a setup like that.
Erick:Yep Got the iPad here as well, probably can run a little DDU action.
Jeff:Yeah, man, he's a lovely dash on that sucker. Oh yeah, I bet he built that little adapter himself too, right, I mean that's got to be custom. Yeah, definitely.
Erick:A little ball joint on there, coupler.
Jeff:Coupler yeah.
Erick:Rob Markman yeah, some more 3D printed stuff in here. Yeah, man, if you. That's the thing I love about sim racing, especially when I got in. It's basically however you want to go about it.
Jason:Rob Markman. If you got the drive, people will find the way to get what they want. That's what I'm saying.
Jeff:Dude, that's exactly why I built that thing. I was like I want something bad enough that. I'm going to figure out a way to do it myself, because it doesn't exist. This dude took that to the next level.
Erick:Oh yeah, he did Killer stuff dude. Yeah, appreciate it, chad, and just kind of, if you're thinking about getting into it and you feel like, oh well, I'm not familiar enough with this, I don't know enough about that, whatever you know, you can start with that and learn the community's there.
Jason:That's it.
Erick:Yeah, I always say, especially having been on YouTube and the tech side for 10 years, this community is amazing. There's no shame. People just love helping you figure out whatever's going on. You got a problem, need help, just like we try to offer help. That's kind of how it is, man.
Jason:Hell yeah, chad. That's what's up, man. Keep us posted. I want to see changes. If you do any major overhauls, just reply to the email, send us another email and let us know. We'll cover it here because I'm interested. I don't think I've seen a setup like that. It's very unique, right.
Erick:Yeah, especially the custom pedals.
Jason:The whole thing is custom built the entire thing. You know, I'm just I think it's awesome, man. So we got we got another email, which I love, covering these. Man, I really do. Uh, we got an email from james logboat. If it, please apologize if I said that right.
Jason:Another satisfied listener is a subject. Hi guys, this email is way overdue. I've been listening to the podcast for a few months and I've been meaning to send you an email for weeks now. I just finished last week's birth of the podcast. That's how you know we're kind of behind on questions, so I apologize for that, but we're here to address that here now and today and forever. So you guys hit the nail on the head, identifying the need for a US-based sim racing podcast. Wow, I appreciate this. Thanks for listening. Yeah, man, thanks for the support.
Jason:Man, the Chicane Podcast has quickly become one of my faves and something I look forward to every Monday. I actually make a living in the sim racing industry. I run a business that supplies sim bricks for marketing events. In a weird way, you guys feel like my coworkers. The podcast is like my water cooler talk. It's not all good, though. As much as I love the podcast, I do find cooler talk. It's not all good though. As much as I love the podcast, I do find myself cursing you guys sometimes. You're all hazardous to my bank account.
Jeff:I was getting nervous there. I know I was like we should have read these before I was like should I?
Jason:stop reading.
Erick:Should I stop reading? Somebody's like cut, cut, go to commercial exactly that word for my sponsor. Oh yeah, go to commercial.
Jason:What the hell is going on. It says I never even glanced at 3d printers. Oh my god, wait until he sees this episode. Oh my god, yeah, we just, we just finished talking about 3d. Yeah, let me read this again I never even glanced at 3d printers in microcenter prior to your pod, lol. Oh yeah, anyway, I'll keep, I'll keep try. It says I'll try to keep it short and just say all three of you are doing great, you're doing a great job. Keep it up. I'm sure it's not easy pumping out the consistent, high-quality production. Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. No, it's not easy. There's a guy in Virginia that appreciates you. Ps, I'll be at the Sim Racing Expo.
Erick:Let's grab a drink in Chicago.
Jason:Hey, thank you so much, man. James Logbo from Sim Racing Events.
Erick:Yes, sir, hit us up.
Jeff:Thanks for listening, dude.
Erick:Yeah, we appreciate it.
Jeff:Please find us or we'll try to look for a James in Chicago.
Jason:Oh, you can find me anywhere, man, I'll tell you, we're wearing the shirt that Jason's got on. We're wearing the shirt that you know we're going to be loud as hell in there. Trust me.
Erick:Yep, the guys on the motion rigs that are squealing like little girls. That's going to be us.
Jason:Yeah, yeah, like pushing people away being rowdy.
Jeff:Sir, no cutting in the line. No, what line?
Jason:The line started here.
Erick:But, james, we appreciate it, man, we appreciate the support and the kind words as well.
Jason:Yeah, thank you so much, James Really appreciate it. Yeah, I can't wait. I can't wait. It's like we have so many people that we're going to meet out there. It's going to be a fun, it's going to be a party. So if you're thinking about going to Chicago, I mean stop thinking.
Jason:We're already in June. This is basically airing in June this episode Chicane 10. Use Chicane 10. Get 10% off your tickets, and that is zero kickback to us. It's just we want you to go, we want you to attend. I have one more and then we will shut this one down for the week, guys. So, oh, this is a good one. This is from Roy Wheeler, which we had an email from him as well, and we actually covered it on the show about some steering wheels that he was asking about.
Jason:Then he says well, that's how he writes the email. He's like well, the little nudge worked.
Jeff:My man, however comma.
Jason:I went with the GSI FPEV2. So this is the guy that was debating on the alpha or the GSI, remember? Mainly because I decided I wanted a screen. My man, screens are great. Never going to regret it. At least one wheel with a screen, at least one the trophy wheel, the trophy Plus. The company is from my home state of Texas. Okay, so I'm a support. I see you Supporting the US-based manufacturer, which GSI, is the only one that I know of, that's making steering wheels and stuff that's made in America. I thought I would send you a pic of the wheel, which I don't, for some reason. I don't. Oh, actually I have it, I have it here. Hold on, guys, we'll share that. I thought I would send you a pic of the wheel and since I know you guys like Crown Royal, I thought I would celebrate with some crown in one of my new chicane podcast glasses.
Erick:Damn man.
Jeff:Thank you so much, that's awesome.
Jason:I appreciate the nudge and the guidance. Can't wait to hook it up. Thanks again, Roy Wheeler. So let's take a look.
Erick:Let's go, Roy.
Jeff:Thanks for listening. Thanks for the email this guy is serious bro, Bro.
Jason:He has got quite the collection up on the top shelf Like what's going on.
Jeff:Oh yeah, this guy's good in my book Sim Racing and Crown Royal dude he's got. Yeah, bro, he's got good good in my book sim racing and uh, wine royal dude he's got wine, he's got vodka.
Jason:Oh, look at the chicane glass guys. Look at the pit chicane up there, right here he's got one on the right too okay.
Erick:Oh yeah, what's the mug? Oh yeah, he got all these essentials right here.
Jason:You got coffee well, he's got another one down here. Look, he's got the he got the tumble glass bro.
